Why We Ride: Our Journey with Pelotonia

Pelotonia is a grassroots organization that was founded in Columbus, Ohio to raise money for one supreme goal: to end cancer. Continental Office was one of its founding corporate members and pelotons (a “peloton” is a group of cyclists). In fact, you can see our original jersey on display in Pelotonia’s office. To date, we’ve ridden over 18,000 miles and raised over $550,000 as an organization to help end cancer. This is my 4th year as captain of the Continental peloton and my 7th year as a participant. Also, did I mention that I’m terrible at riding a bike?

We had a handful of Continental riders at the 1st Pelotonia back in 2009. That number is closer to 50 now with an additional 20-30 volunteers. We host fundraising events throughout the year to help our riders complete their personal fundraising goals. This includes around 5-10 pancake breakfasts and a yearly happy hour, all of which are donation-based events. Our associates as well as clients, family, and friends come out to these events whether they’re a rider, volunteer, or supporter. Many of our associates also come up with their own freakishly-creative ideas for their personal fundraisers, such as Paws for Pelotonia.

Pelotonia is an organization that goes above and beyond. In addition to being incredibly supportive by coming to our events and collaborating with us on things like the Pelotonia Aeron chair, they’ve become our friends. Their meteoric rise over the past eight years is not surprising. When you combine the idea of helping others and a purpose-driven community with one goal in mind, great things are bound to happen. Cancer impacts us all in some way and while we each have our own reasons and stories as to how, together we can make a pretty powerful difference in the fight to end it. This is why we ride.

We've ridden with Pelotonia for over a decade. See how we were able to transform their new space into something uniquely Pelotonia - something that worked well for their needs and allows them to continue their amazing work!
